» Setting up Alert delivery

LogicMonitor has a very powerful alert delivery and escalation system, but it does require some setup to take advantage of the power.

The alert delivery system involves these elements:

  • creating contacts and destinations for alerts. This is best done by creating LogicMonitor accounts for each person that will receive alerts, and defining different contact methods for them (email, sms email, voice phone).
  • Destination Macros are used to group LogicMonitor users into distribution lists, which can simplify the creation of escalation chains.
  • Alert Rules act as filters, routing alerts to the appropriate Escalation Chain and setting the alert escalation interval, based on the alert characteristics (Host group, name, alert level, datasource in alert, etc)
  • Escalation Chains contain one or more stages, which are lists of contacts that the alerts are sent to. Later stages are only contacted if the alert is still in effect, and the prior stages have not acknowledged or suppressed the alert.

Alerts can also be set up to be delivered by a collector to another system, so that they can be received inside firewalls.
